This newly published book has all your favorite blue pen and ink drawings from the Robert McCloskey Caldecott Honor Classic of long ago, but it seems like yesterday. The waitress said tonight that was her favorite. Our 49 year old son loved this read aloud at bedtime. Heads were nodding YES at the table next to ours.
Now this new book has a collection of blueberry recipes that will make your mouth water. It has breakfast, lunch, and dinner ideas, plus extra drinks and in-between snacks that are healthy with blueberries.
July was declared National Blueberry Month by President Nixon. New Jersey claims it as the state berry. How did Maine allow that? Lowbush wild berries are in the story and high bush berries are the ones Maine exports all over.
Canned or frozen or fresh are all good for these “Sweet Recipes Inspired by the Beloved Children’s Classic”. Piers Sanford adds a few more illustrations. McCloskey’s love of Maine is evident in four out of eight of his picture books for children: Blueberries for Sal, One Morning in Maine, Time of Wonder, and Burt Dow: Deep-Water Man.
Picking tiny sweet Maine blueberries in July, what could be better? Healthy, too, for your insides and outside exercise good for ALL.
Bears and birds are also covered in this recipe book, so go to Oliver and Friends to further your knowledge and summer enrichment.
