Summertime in the Belgrades is a "good news" paper; that is to say it is well-written, easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to enjoy.

Summertime revisits a kinder, gentler way of life: a time when the news was for the most part good; when people made time for their neighbors; and when mom and pop businesses mattered. Our philosophy at Summertime is to focus on local, good news because there is plenty of it; to highlight regional business successes because there are plenty of these; and to underscore successful neighborhood and community efforts. We are basically a mom and pop operation proud of our local advertisers, many of whom are small businesses like ourselves. They provide truly excellent products, goods and services.

Editorially, Summertime provides stories of local interest, topics that are historical, environmental, educational, musical, theatrical, dramatic, occasionally whimsical, always wholesome, healthy, and fun. You won't find any murder, mayhem, rape, pillage, or plunder reported here — probably not even bribery or speeding tickets. Our pages are filled with family-oriented festivities, activities, outings, recreation, and quiet relaxation.

Geographically, we focus on Central Maine's wonderful Belgrade Lakes Region, the Kennebec River Corridor, the vibrant and historic river towns, and all the scenic lakes and lake communities surrounding the Belgrades.

If our paper can bring a moment's tranquility in a busy day, a few minutes peace of mind on a summer's evening as the world slows down a bit, and some fond memories to savor long after summer is over, then it has served its purpose well.

Fortunately for the world, there are still special refuges like the Central Maine Lakes Country, where summer after summer, visitors fill our guest rooms, enjoy meals in our fine eateries, return to family camps, and spend for those things that remind them of what is so special here.

It would be nice to think that this little paper could provide a momentary escape from some of life's complications, a return to simpler, happier, and more tranquil times. Summertime is a GOOD NEWS PAPER, please read and enjoy the good writing, the creative ads and the useful information in the various directories.
