Gentle Rain Would Be Nice

by Dick Greenan

Anatomy of our Wings Mill crib style dam

As of this writing, our Belgrade Lakes just received a paltry one half inch of light rain, which was a little less than what we needed. Both Great Pond's Village dam and Long Pond's Wings Mill dams are currently 0.96″ above full pond with all gates still completely closed.

Salmon/McGrath is now 2.24″ below full pond with its single gate opened just the mandated 1 cfs. flow. Our neighbors on Messalonskee are down 4.68″ below full which, as we've said, is representative of both this dry period and the fact that Essex Hydro uses the Oakland Dam to provide us with electricity. Some nice gentle rain while we're all asleep would be nice.

If you have a particular questions regarding our dams and/or water levels, please email your inquiry to dickgreenan@outlook.com and we will try to answer your question either in this column or via email.

Enjoy your summer! It's going to be beautiful one!
