Three Library Book Sale Finds
What fun we book people have at public library book sales! I have heard from several Belgrade friends about the crowds at the library sale this summer and the bags of purchases made by eager readers. One reading friend selects lovely special books for Christmas gifts, which I have gladly received.
Another book sale buyer in Belgrade saw a long line before it even opened.
Why not find great kids‘ books like I do? I share them with the neighbors’ children and then they place them in our Little Library around the comer.
The Story of Selena Willliams caught my eye with this summer‘s Wimbledon and the two sisters playing great tennis once again. Shader B. Mallory writes “An Inspiring Biography for Young Readers.”
Bruce the Balding Moose by Corinne Mellor is eyecatching because illustrator Jonathan Allen draws a terrific pop-up book for little ones. There is even a pocket full of antler substitutes tucked away and easy to mount on the poor balding head shown on three different pages. Fun manipulation for little ones along with older supervision for careful preservation of creative cardboard pieces all intact. Careful readers!
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury reminded me about the action game we played as kids. Close the book and go on a bear hunt with your children inside and outside around the lake. Yes, bears, I am told, are around the Belgrades. I have not seen one yet…
Have fun with low cost and well loved books from our public library book sales. Money well spent to buy new shiny ones you can check out free in the future.
Second hand bookstores are many around the Belgrades too: Merrill’s in Hallowell on Main Street and Re-BOOKS in Waterville, where parking is easy. I love Feldman’s in Menlo Park, CA, where I found the relatively new novel and still a bestseller now Theo of Golden: snatched it for a few dollars so now I can give my gifted Theo and this second copy of Theo to friends for our Sept. book discussion of this extremely popular novel.
Theo of Golden made me think of On Golden Pond in so many ways AND also Gentleman from Moscow. Memorable stories tie in with other good stories as we dream of favorite places like the Belgrade Lakes, here in magical summer Maine.
